Ceramic workshop

The objective of this activity is to show the handmade elaboration process of the objects made with clay. It starts with an explanation of the techniques and typologies appeared in the ceramic of the Castro de Viladonga. After that, participants will try to make a pot, by hand and with clay, taking as a model one of the ones found in the hillfort.

This workshop is aimed at pre-school, primary and high school students. The activity has an approximate duration of two hours.

Groups up to 25 participants are recommended. Bigger groups can toggle between visiting the Hillfort and the Museum..

Numismatic workshop

(Officina Monetalis)

The objective of this workshop is to bring the participants closer to the coins' coinage in roman world. It starts with an introduction about the origin, manufacturing and coins flow. Then, the coinage of a piece is copied, with moulding paste, taking as a reference one of the museum’s collection. Finally, a cataloguing file is made, where the characteristics of the coin are described and documented.

This workshop is aimed at second and third grade and secondary education students. The activity has an approximate duration of two hours.

Groups up to 25 participants are recommended. Bigger groups can toggle between visiting the Hillfort and the Museum..

Taller de arqueología

The objective of this activity is to bring the students closer to archaeological work and make them understand the importance of archaeology as basic science for studying and valuation of cultural heritage and thus our history.
This workshop is aimed at third grade and secondary education students. The activity has an approximate duration of two hours.

Students must be allocated in groups up to 5 or 6 people for a good development of the workshop, and a total maximum of 60 students.

The museum will provide every group with the following equipment:

  • A field notebook, students can keep it.
  • An equipment bag that must be returned after the activity. It includes two files (file 1: Structures and file 2: Objects), a measuring tape, a magnetic compass, a pencil, a pencil sharpener and a rubber.

The workshop starts in the museum with a brief introduction completed with the projection of the Castro de Viladonga’s video. Next, the working equipment is provided and the activity in the hillfort starts. Every group has to locate, in the terrain, the structure in the file 1 and answer the questions in the field notebook.

Once this stage of the work is done, groups have to come back to the museum to find, in the exhibition rooms, the pieces in the file 2.
